Dayspring Philosophy

Please read our philosophy statement. We ask families who participate in our enrichment classes to understand our philosophy. We do not expect total agreement on every point, but ask for acceptance as far as our tutorial days are concerned.

Dayspring is not a school; neither are we a model of home schooling. Dayspring provides tutors and labs for a variety of subjects. These tutorials meet one day a week and are not intended to teach all that students need to know. These tutorials offer inspiration, information, lab experience, an opportunity for recitation and a chance to discuss in a group setting what the week’s work has produced.

Our instructors provide the culmination activity and experiential learning for the material studied. Daily work and tests are done at home under the supervision of the primary teacher, the parent. This requires that both student and teacher texts/keys be purchased for some classes.

Tutorials that meet once a week cannot satisfy academic credit or provide comprehensive instruction unless parents and students work together outside of class to complete what is required. The parent is the primary teacher for each student and, therefore, assigns the final course grade.

Our tutorials provide an opportunity to pursue academic excellence within the context of Christian faith without getting onto areas of controversy about doctrine. Tolerance for each person’s faith is assured. The spontaneous expression of faith flows in the classroom, but religious doctrine is not a formal part of instruction.

Faith and intellect are not mutually exclusive. As our children mature, we want to share with them ideas that may challenge their faith later in life. We choose to introduce these ideas to them while they are in our sphere of influence. We want to help them recognize and counter worldviews, which deny God’s power in the universe. Teaching mature students to think clearly, to discern truth and recognize deception remains a primary goal.

We appreciate your commitment to educating your child. We are committed to working with you, while maintaining your role as the primary teacher and authority.
