Middle School Chemistry (Grades 6 -8) 9:00 - 10:25 am

Instructor: Mrs. McIlvaine

Tuition: $320

Material fee: $45

This fascinating overview of chemistry, full of hands-on experiments and discussion, will give your students great preparation for high school science study of all kinds.  The course of study will include:  chemistry basics, atoms & molecules, the periodic table, the nature of chemistry (chemical bonds, compounds, formulae, acids, bases, salts, reactions), states of matter, organic chemistry, physical and chemical changes, nuclear power, and more.  Each student should see firsthand the Great Chemist, the God of all Creation, revealed through His intricate nature in chemistry.  Delving into a subject deeply allows your student to develop a love for science and an appreciation and thirst for learning.

Parents should buyChristian Kids Explore Chemistry  (available online at many sites)We will blend the use of that book with Dinah Zike’s Great Science Adventure series:  Discovering Atoms, Molecules and Matter (Your student will receive a notebook with all pages necessary to use this second curriculum for a cost of $5, included in your registration fee. Parents do NOT need to purchase this book.)

Physical Science (Grades 8 - 10) 9:00 - 10:25 am

Instructor: Mrs. Kelley Buchanan

Tuition: $320

Lab fees: $45

Though not a prerequisite, students taking pre-algebra find this course easier than those with no algebra experience at all.  "This course is designed to be the last science course a student takes before taking high school biology.  It discusses such topics as the atmosphere, hydrosphere, weather, the structure of the earth, environmentalism, physics of motion, Newton's laws, gravity and astrophysics.  It is an excellent course for preparing the student to take a college-prep high school science curriculum."

Biology (Grades 9-12) 9:00 - 10:25 am
Instructor: TBA
Tuition: $320
Lab rental: $70

This course is designed to be the first high school science course a student takes. The text is written in conversational style, making it easy to read and understand. It contains student exercises with detailed solutions, experiments and tests. The course is taught wholly from a creationist viewpoint, with emphasis on the incredible design features apparent throughout God’s creation.

Prerequisite: Students should be taking or have completed Algebra I.

Text: Exploring Creation With Biology by Dr. Jay Wile and Marilyn
Durnell, set. 2nd edition.

Honors Anatomy (Biology 2) (Grades 10-12)  10:30 - 11:55 am
Instructor: Mrs. Delnora Williams
Tuition: $320
Lab rental: $70

This is an advanced biology course. This course covers both the anatomy and physiology of the human body’s 11 organ systems in detail. Please note: The reproductive system is covered in detail, including anatomical illustrations and descriptions. The two courses together cover the entire “advanced placement” (AP) curriculum. While the author recommends students have chemistry prior to taking this class, we have found that diligent students can master this without chemistry and in fact do well following Biology I immediately.

Prerequisite: Students must have passed Biology I with an 85 or above average.

Text: The Human Body: Fearfully & Wonderfully Made by Marilyn Shannon and Dr. Jay Wile, set. 2001 edition

Chemistry (Grades 9-12) 10:30 - 11:55 am

Instructor: Mrs. Hyde

Tuition: $320

Lab Fees: $70

Chemistry in high school is a prerequisite to most college-level chemistry courses.  This lab covers fundamental laws, theories, and mathematical concepts of chemistry and uses labs to complement and enhance traditional topics.  Topics studied include: structure and states of matter, atomic theory, types of reactions, thermodynamics, equilibrium, gas laws, acids, bases, salts, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and organic chemistry.
