Spanish Classes (Grades 9-12)

Spanish 1: 12:30 - 1:55 pm
This high-school level Spanish course has an emphasis on speaking.
Labs will focus on applying what the student studies at home. By the end of the first year the student should be able to simply present the “wordless book” in Spanish. .Labs will cover enough material to yield a credit for one year of high school Spanish IF the student does the daily work at home as required. Lab time will be for oral practice, discussion of concepts in lessons, and vocabulary quizzes and games. One oral presentation and one written geographical report will also be required.

Spanish 2: 2:00 - 3:25 pm
Spanish 2 Lab will continue the grammar and vocabulary from Spanish 1,
and will cover enough material to justify a credit in Spanish 2 IF the
student does the daily work at home. Again, the focus is on speaking
and communicating in Spanish. At least one oral presentation will be
required.

Spanish 3 By arrangement with Mrs. McIlvaine
Spanish 3 continues deeper into the Spanish language, becoming more useful and more complex. We will integrate literature and composition, cultural study, and language study. The literature study comes from a college course and will challenge and equip your student for further study, mission trips, and conversing with native Spanish speakers. For Spanish 3 we will use the ABeka curriculum, Spanish 2, "Más Que Vencedores". We will use Book 2A, the Vocabulary Manual, and the test booklet (if they have developed one yet). There is a possibility of one more book which could be added at a later date.

Dayspring Tutorials is honored to announce the establishment of the Granados Chapter of the National Spanish Honor Society, chartered 2006. Students are eligible for an invitation to join after three semesters of Spanish by maintaining an average of 90 or better. Membership is truly an honor for diligence, initiative and achievement, and is recognized as such on college applications and job résumés. Students may also apply for scholarships for college and international travel with induction into the NSHS.
Also, Kairos Spanish students will have a choice of participating in two competitions, one regional and one national:
—The Regional Foreign Language Festival is held at Lenoir-Rhyne College in
Hickory during the first week of April.
Students in all levels of Spanish may participate.
—The National Spanish Exam, also held in April.
