KAIROS Instructors

Mrs. Delnora Williams, Director: Homeschooling mother of five, ages twelve to twenty-one. Having earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with college honors in English from the University of Washington she has also worked as a Research Technologist in a Pathology Research Lab at the UW for five years. She enjoys and has tutored students in English, History, Algebra, Geometry, and the sciences through Anatomy. When not tutoring, her delight is in making the Word of God come alive through in-depth study and occasionally drama.

Mrs. Nancy Coleman, Administrator: Nancy Coleman is a homeschool mother of five. She has homeschooled for 17 years – all of her children being homeschooled from the beginning. Nancy has a passion for helping young people understand how to clearly express their views and thoughts in writing, as well as how to think and write critically and to assess the influences they encounter through a Kingdom worldview.  She taught high school English in the public school system before embarking on her homeschool career, and has instructed many homeschooled students in classroom settings over the years. She also serves on the board of North Carolinians for Home Education as the Conference Vice President, and is serving at Kairos in an administrative capacity

Mrs. Molly Angel: Molly Angel grew up in the Asheville area and currently lives in Arden with her husband and son.  She has a B.A. in Studio Art from Meredith College.  She has taught art at many levels including at North Asheville Christian School, Veritas Christian Academy, and private and group lessons and summer camps.  She enjoys painting, pottery, fiber arts and collage...and facilitating students in their own artistic endeavors.  She sees artistic expression as a form of worshiping our Creator God, whose image we reflect.

Mr. Richard Bohland: I am the father of five children. I am a retired infantry sergeant. I have loved history all of my life. History is the record of God’s love. It sweeps with grand majesty across the plains of our minds. It shows us what we can be and what has been sacrificed for us. To know history is to speak the language of liberty.

Mrs. Kelley Buchanan:  Mrs. Buchanan is a native of Hendersonville and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University.  She worked for many years in the chemical industry before having children and being a stay at home mom.  She returned to work part time as a math and science tutor for home schooled students in Charlotte as well as a Chemistry teacher for classes of Christian home schooled students.  Upon her return to the Asheville area, she has taught Chemistry at Southwestern Community College and 8th grade Pre-algebra and Physical Science at Asheville Christian Academy.  She loves to share her knowledge of math and science with her students and show them how wonderfully “engineered” God’s world is!

Mrs. Wendy Carter: Homeschooling mother of two, B.A. in Behavioral Sciences from U. of SW Louisiana.  Orton-Gillingham trained in basic and advanced.  Taught at Key Center for six years.

Mr. Timothy Coleman: Tim Coleman has been a homeschooling father for some 20 years. He was raised in a strong Christian home with his father being a pastor.  He and his wife Nancy are currently homeschooling five of their children (the two oldest have graduated). One of his passions is how worldviews have influenced societies and public policy throughout the centuries. He believes that people, both young and old, need to not merely know what they believe, but why they believe it; to examine the substance of an issue, instead of its superficial implications.  It is his hope that the Great Conversations course will instill into the students some critical thinking skills as well as sharpen their abilities to engage a world that is becoming increasingly against Christianity

Mrs. Cindy Hyde: Homeschooling mother of two (14 years). B.S. Biology, Geneva College. B.S.N. George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. Adjunct professor at Grove City College and Geneva College while director of Fairfax Hospital School of Cardiopulmonary Technology, Fairfax, VA. She is active with 4-H, French, boy scouts, and karate (blue belt).

Mrs. Marji McIlvaine: Homeschooling mom of six (3 graduates – one college grad, 2 in college, 3 still at home), B.A. in Spanish from the University of Florida, graduate study in linguistics as well as  testing and assessment, has a passion for foreign language study, a heart for missions, and teaches Spanish (a bit of French and German, too) to homeschoolers from preschool through high school.  She has been privileged to share her love of history, the sciences, and language arts with her own children and other students along the way. She is the Communications Director for Henderson County Homeschool Association, a Woodcock-Johnson test administrator, and an occasional author and speaker.

“I believe that foreign language study is one of the ways we develop hearts for missions as well as begin to understand the beauty and complexity of the people God has created. A modern language like Spanish is meant to be applied and used.  It’s one thing to go over the material from a textbook, recording, or computer, and quite another altogether to be asked to take that knowledge and apply it. That moves a student’s learning from passive to active. Why study a language? Well, to speak to other people, of course! Why speak to other people? To develop relationships and to communicate the truth of God’s love.”

Mr. Dean Peteet:  Dean just recently moved back to his hometown Asheville with his new wife Lisa from St. Louis Mo. He was in St. Louis getting a master’s degree in theological studies from Covenant Theological Seminary and plans to pursue a career in teaching.  He enjoys music, reading books, watching films and understanding art and art history
