In ancient Greece, if you wanted to indicate “the right moment” or that which time gives you the opportunity to do, you would use the word Kairos, rather than Chronos which indicated merely the sequential passing of time. Originally drawn from images in archery, in which precision and appropriate thrust were required for successful passage, and in weaving in which the critical moment must be recognized and utilized in the construction of the cloth, Kairos came to have significance in the world of rhetoric to indicate the appropriate time for making an argument. Likewise, in the Bible, Kairos was used to designate the right or strategic time for something to occur. Kairos, then, was not just something to be discovered and used, but occasionally an opening to be constructed. Opportune moments are both seized and developed. Equipping the next generation is just such a Kairos.
Begun more than ten years ago as a labor of love to the home schooling community, Dayspring classes partner with parents to maximize this kairos moment. Our goal is to participate in the development of life-long learners, students who are people of excellence, integrity, passion and identity. To do this we offer classes which offer academic excellence, because faith and intellect are not mutually exclusive. We encourage students to think clearly, discerning truth from deception; to understand that their choices even now are significant; and to embrace a life that demonstrates the kingdom of God in all its creativity, zeal, excellence, purpose, and grace. In short, we offer academic classes in an atmosphere of active faith.
We at Dayspring Tutorials, then, are delighted to announce the new name for our high school and middle school classes:
KAIROS
. . .because now is the right time to educate, encourage and equip the next generation.
